Detailed Description: Tea Time for Downton Abbey Fans

If the popular British period television drama "Downton Abbey" series is your cup of tea, you are in for a treat when Curtis Library hosts a 'Downton Abbey Tea Party' in honor of the release of the fifth season of the incredibly popular TV series.

The library invites anyone interested in the show to attend a Downton Abbey Tea party on January 5th from 4-5:30 pm in the Morrell Meeting Room. Come enjoy tea, trivia, games, and crafts. Participants are asked to bring their favorite tea cup to use (and show off) and their best high tea treats to share.

Millinery and attire from the era is optional, but highly encouraged. "People are invited to dress as their favorite character in the series or wear a hat and gloves," said Sarah Brown, library coordinator for the event. "After tea, guests are invited to craft a Downton inspired headband or fascinator."

The television series is set in the United Kingdom at the fictional estate of Downton Abbey and tells the stories of the aristocratic Crawley family and their servants. The series begins in 1912 and depicts how historic events, such as the sinking of the Titanic, affected the lives of the British social hierarchy.

The library has the first four seasons on DVD in its collection as well as books about the making of the series, the customs of the era, and Highclere Castle, where the series is filmed. Librarian Carol Lord, who is in charge of DVD ordering for the library, says that they can hardly keep the DVDs on the shelves due to the popularity of the drama.

Season 5 of the Masterpiece Classic "Downton Abbey" will premiere Sunday, January 4, 2015. "The event will be a good chance for people to catch up on what the characters have been up to and guess what direction season 5 might take," Ms. Lord said.
